HBCU Tour

Day 1 - Friday, Oct 13

Leave Denfeld High School at 7:15 am. Duluth to Murfreesboro, TN. (14 hours)  Overnight at Red Roof Inn in Murfreesboro. 

 

Day 2 - Sat, Oct 14

Lunch at Swetts Southern Food in Nashville. 1-HBCU Fisk University. 2 pm speaker with historian and Professor Emerita Lynda Wynn. Dinner and shopping at the Farmers Market in Nashville. Overnight at Red Roof Inn in Murfreesboro.

Day 3 - Sun, Oct 15

Murfreesboro to Atlanta (3.5 hrs; 8 am -11:30 am). 2-HBCU Spelman University. 1 pm Sisters Chapel - Service.  Self-guided tour of Spelman. 3 p.m. Visit 3-HBCU Morehouse University Library.  Golden Corral Buffet Dinner. Drive 2.5 hrs to Wingate in Montgomery, AL

Day 4 - Mon, Oct 16

Montgomery to Tuskegee,  (40 minutes). 4-HBCU Tuskegee University. 10 a.m. tour (75 min). Lunch in the Dining Hall. Afternoon Tuskegee Legacy museum. Overnight at Wingate in Montgomery, AL.

 

Day 5 - Tues, Oct 17

Montgomery to Jackson (6 hours). Brief stop in Selma to see Edmund Pettis Bridge. Visit 5-HBCU Alcorn State University. Dinner (Golden Corral?) in Jackson. Overnight at Baymont Inn, Jackson.

Day 6 - Wed, Oct 18

Visit the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, 9 am. Lunch on campus of 6-Jackson State University. Chick-fil-A and Pizza Hut. See 7-HBCU Tougaloo College, outside Jackson. Village Kitchen restaurant. Overnight at Baymont Inn, Jackson.

 

Day 7 - Thurs, Oct 19 

Jackson to Lexington (1.5 hrs). Tour Holmes County Courthouse. Meet Mississippi legislator Bryant Clark. Lunch (Agape Restaurant) in Lexington. Lexington to Memphis (3 hrs). Beale Street music scene. Overnight at La Quinta-Airport Inn in Memphis.

Day 8 - Fri, Oct 20

Morning to 8-HBCU Lemoyne-Owen College, 10 am tour, Memphis. Afternoon visit to the National Civil Rights Museum. Dinner in Memphis. Memphis to Jefferson City (5 hrs). Overnight at Baymont Inn in Jefferson City.

Day 8 - Sat, Oct 21

9-10 am visit 9-HBCU Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. Jefferson City to Duluth (10 hrs; 10 am-8 pm).
